About Us

Kelley Faulkner, Primary Midwife

Kelley and Loren
Kelley with her youngest son
Kelley founded New Life Midwifery, following the birth of her two fun and energetic boys. Prior to becoming a midwife, she was a DONA doula for many years and have attended hundreds of births in a variety of setting. She has a deep appreciation and respect for the wonder and magic of birth and she believes that healthy women simply birth easier, safer, and more joyfully at home.

Midwifery is truly a passion for every member of our birth team. We have all learned traditional midwifery primarily through the essential age-old model of apprenticeship in addition to conventional coursework. Kelley attended the Barefoot Midwifery program at the Heaven & Earth Wellness Center and is a board member of the Massachusetts Midwifery Alliance. She facilitates a monthly midwifery learning and continuing education group, while maintaining current certification in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.

Kelley with baby Noelle
She actively provides lactation support and founded a private milk donation resource known as MilkShare. She has connections with families in Africa and is happy to help support the efforts of the African Birth Collective. A portion of our birth fee supports this essential organization.

During your birth, two or three members of our birth team will be present to provide you with the most efficient and safe birth team. We welcome all families seeking a safe and supported birthing experience, same-sex families, single parents, surrogates, and families with diverse religious and cultural beliefs. Our approach is very holistic in nature, using preventative care to keep mother and baby safe. We incorporate of knowledge of herbs and homeopathic, as well as referrals for complimentary alternative care, as desired.

We have a "no-harm" philosophy for mothers and babies and strive to prevent all unecessary interventions. When Moms are relaxed and let their body and baby decide how to birth, I believe and have witnessed that birthing is a gentle and pleasurable experience that is often very comfortable and full of many emotions including strength, fulfillment, and ecstasy. Birth holds a special intimacy that unites families in the most fantastic sense. In a culture that does not fully value birth, it is my goal to respect it's beauty and ensure that every woman I meet feels empowered and fulfilled from her birth experience.

Za'Yn Muhammad Manna, Assistant Midwife

Za'Yn is mother of three beautiful girls 19, 4 and 2 years old. She is a VBAC mother and birthed her two youngest daughters at home. As an Anthropology major, she's focused her study in Medical Anthropology and is very committed to wholistic and non western/alternative healing modalities. Za'Yn began attending homebirths six years ago and has completed her EMT certification. She is a practicing Doula and Childbirth Educator, and is an active member and state representative of the International Center of Traditional Childbearing.

Za'Yn and Kelley are travel midwives and together are supporting an international birth practice that will extend into both coasts of Africa and parts of Asia, as well. Both midwives are available at particular time of the year for attending births abroad in locations that permit them to legally do so. Airfire and additional fees may apply.

Joyce Kimball, CPM, Supporting Midwife

Joyce and Baby
Joyce is mother of two children; David, born in a hospital with a CNM in 1995 and Julia, born at home in 1999 with a midwife. Once a Human Resource Director, in 1998 she changed careers and began attending births as a doula and apprentice midwife. Joyce has been practicing midwifery for more than five years, and she attends births in a variety of settings as a doula or as a midwife. In addition to birth services, Joyce also offers birth healing sessions, Reiki, and Chakra Balancing. In the event that a member of our team is not able to be present at your birth, Joyce is the woman to fill her shoes. She simply is a wonderful compliment to our birth team and we know that you'll agree!
