About Us

Kelley Faulkner, Primary Midwife

Kelley and Loren
Kelley with her youngest son
What a pleasure it is to work with birthing families! I have been attending births in various capacities for several years, and witnessing the beauty of new life is a delight like no other. I am a mother of two fun and energetic boys and they have taught me a tremendous amount about patience and surrendering to the wonder of birth. Prior to becoming a midwife, I was a doula for many years and have attended numerous births in the hospital. My experience in attending hospital births led me to have a deeper appreciation and respect for births without intervention, as I've observed that healthy women simply birth easier, safer, and more joyfully at home.

Midwifery is truly a passion and it is a joy to experience the power of women again and again. I learned traditional midwifery primarily through the age-old model of apprenticeship with a very busy midwife, Nancy Wainer, and I attended the Barefoot Midwifery program at the Heaven & Earth Wellness Center, in addition to a variety or other midwifery classes. I am a board member of the Massachusetts Midwifery Alliance and a member of the Midwives Alliance of North America. I also faciliatate and host a monthly midwifery learning and continuing education group, while maintaining current certification in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation. I am active in providing lactation support and I founded a private milk donation connection resource known as MilkShare. I have developed connections with families in Senegal, Africa and am proud to support the efforts of the African Birth Collective. If hiring me for your birth, a portion of my fee for services will support this essential organization. Additional tax deductible donations can be made via the ABC website and will help to improve maternity care in West Africa. A great gift idea or way to thank your midwife or doula!

During your birth, an experienced midwife will join me in addition to one or two of my apprentice or assistant midwives, to provide you with the most efficient birth team. We welcome all families seeking a safe and supported birthing experience, same-sex families, single parents, surrogates, and families with diverse religious and cultural beliefs.

Having spent time in West Africa, Kelley is increasingly familiar with Muslim lifestyle and is sensitive to the needs of of those living according to the Qur'aan, including those in polygamous households. Our approach is very holistic in nature, using preventative care to keep mother and baby safe. We incorporate of knowledge of herbs and homeopathic, as well as referrals for complimentary alternative care, as desired.

We have a "no-harm" philosophy for mothers and babies and strive to prevent all unecessary interventions. When Moms are relaxed and let their body and baby decide how to birth, I believe and have witnessed that birthing is a gentle and pleasurable experience that is often very comfortable and full of many emotions including strength, fulfillment, and ecstasy. Birth holds a special intimacy that unites families in the most fantastic sense. In a culture that does not fully value birth, it is my goal to respect it's beauty and ensure that every woman I meet feels empowered and fulfilled from her birth experience.
