Massachusetts Midwifery Continuing Education Group
About Our group:
I created this group to offer an open forum for learning, sharing, and growing our midwifery skills. This group is open to experienced midwives, as well as the novice who is hoping to explore midwifery. The group topics are dictated by the regular participants and we attempt to focus on those areas that the group prefers by majority. This group serves as a casual, friendly, and welcoming environment to network, ask questions, review case studies, share, explore, and practice skills. This is a regularly attended group of more than 20 diverse women including those who are considering, newly learning, already apprenticing, and currently practicing midwifery.
Frequency of meeting:
This group meet monthly on the first Sunday of each month from 8am-12pm. Our meeting begins promptly, so please do your best to be timely.
Food:
Please bring food with you, as our meeting are long. Ideally each person can bring something healthy to contribute to the group for some pot-luck style snacking. I am not vegetarian, but several people are, so bear that in mind. If desired, you are more than welcome to use my kitchen in any way that you'd like for cooking and such. I always have fruit and things to snack on also.
Children:
I want to days to be convenient for people to attend. Please feel free to bring young children, at your discretion, especially nursing babies. My two children will be generally home, though my partner will be caring for them. I would only ask that you excuse yourself if your child needs you. We have lots of toys to play with. If we decide that we will do some skills practice that is not appropriate for children to be present during, you may consider leaving them home.
A few other things to note:
We do have four cats- hopefully this won't pose any allergy issues.
Full confidentiality is expected. We may share stories about experiences and these must stay within our group.
No question is too silly to ask, so please speak openly. We may not find all of the answers during the meeting, but we can follow-up by e-mail or during our next group meet.
As for seating, I have plenty of room, but not enough comfy chairs for everyone. I have some pillow and blankets. People may wish to bring their own as well, as I suspect that we will do a lot of floor sitting.
Be sure to bring pen and paper for notes (I have some if you forget).
